Samsung Gets Some Claims Trimmed in ‘Black Stainless Steel’ Suit

Samsung Electronics America Inc. successfully challenged several claims in a class action alleging it violated various state consumer laws by advertising that its appliances had a “black stainless steel” finish, when the color was actually a thin plastic coat that peeled and flaked off—but most of the claims may proceed.

The plaintiffs brought their claims under Texas, Nevada, Massachusetts, California, New York, Florida, and South Carolina law, and a common law unjust enrichment claim. Samsung moved to dismiss the suit.
