Salesforce Sheds Patent Infringement Claims Over Database Search

Salesforce Inc. won dismissal of a patent infringement suit regarding “on the fly” database searching because the claims in the two disputed patents cover “abstract ideas” that aren’t patentable, a federal judge said.

Vilox Technologues LLC alleged Saleforce is infringing on US Patent No. 6,760,720 entitled “Search-on-the-Fly/Sort-on-the-Fly Search Engine for Searching Databases,” and US Patent No. 7,188,100, entitled “Search-on-the-Fly Report Generator.”

Vilox’s argued that the claims “are directed to technological improvements in database searching without requiring knowledge of the structure of the database,” that result in “more efficient and faster computer operations.”
