Roche to Face Christian Worker in Covid-Jab Exemption Suit Trial

A jury must decide whether it would’ve posed an undue hardship for Roche Diagnostics Corp. to exempt an IT service engineer from its Covid-19 vaccination mandate as an accommodation for his Christian beliefs, a federal judge ruled.

An employer must show accommodating a worker’s religion would result in substantial increased costs on its business operations in order to establish an undue hardship defense under Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the US District Court for the Southern District of Indiana said. It cited the US Supreme Court’s recently clarified test.
