Republic Services, BFI Sued Over Pollution From California Plant

Republic Services Inc. and subsidiary BFI Waste Systems of North America LLC were accused Monday of violating the Clean Water Act by discharging industrial stormwater containing high levels of pollutants like zinc, chemical oxygen demand, and copper from their Fremont, Calif., facility.

The complaint, filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, alleges that the waste disposal companies have violated the CWA and their California General Industrial Stormwater Permit on an ongoing and continuous basis since at least May 13, 2020.
