Religious Groups Denied Early Relief in Immigration Suit (1)

A D.C. federal judge refused a bid by religious organizations to block immigration raids in places of worship, according to a Friday order.

The plaintiffs haven’t established a substantial likelihood of having standing to sue under Article III, said Judge Dabney L. Friedrich of the US District Court for the District of Columbia. He denied the plaintiffs’ motion for a preliminary injunction.

The plaintiffs filed their suit Feb. 11, which said revocation of a previous DHS policy that restricted immigration enforcement in or near places of worship violates the First Amendment’s freedom of religion protections and other federal laws.
