Red Cross Donors Sue for Millions of Dollars in Haiti Relief (1)

The American Red Cross didn’t do enough to stop scammers in Haiti from siphoning relief money donated to communities dying from natural disasters, a Haitian coalition said in a federal lawsuit filed Monday.

The Red Cross has raised over $500 million over the last decade for relief efforts in Haiti after an earthquake in 2010 killed at least 300,000 residents of the island. But those funds were stolen or misappropriated under the international relief organization’s watch, attorneys claimed in a complaint filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
