An R. Kelly assault victim who won a $4 million judgment from the disgraced R&B star gets priority over a financial services firm also trying to recoup its losses from the singer’s royalties, the Illinois Supreme Court ruled.

Heather Williams’ claims come first because she submitted her claim to Sony Music Holdings Inc. via the US Postal Service while Midwest Commercial Funding LLC contacted the music publisher by email.
