Quinn Emanuel Can’t Advise X Corp. Against Ex-Israeli Client (1)

Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP was disqualified by a federal court from representing X Corp. against a former client of the law firm in a data scraping dispute.

The firm broke its “duty of loyalty” by advising an Israeli data collection firm on how to defend its business model only to sue the company later, the court said.

Judge William Alsup filed the disqualification order on July 12 in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, granting Bright Data Ltd.'s request to nix the firm from representing its opponent. Bright Data retrieves “crucial public web data” ...
