Quest Diagnostics Wins Dismissal of Suit Over Meta Info Sharing

Quest Diagnostics Inc. succeeded in convincing a court to dismiss a lawsuit alleging it improperly shared patients’ data with Meta Platforms Inc., after a federal judge granted Quest’s request to reconsider an earlier ruling that allowed one claim to proceed.

The company wasn’t liable under the eavesdropping provisions of California Invasion of Privacy Act—which Judge William J. Martini had previously declined to dismiss.

He granted Quest’s motion for reconsideration because Meta was a direct party to the communications rather than an eavesdropping third party, according to the opinion Tuesday.
