Purell Hand Sanitizer Consumer Deception Suits Thrown Out

Purell maker Gojo Industries Inc. won dismissal of proposed class suits alleging it deceptively claimed its hand sanitizer “kills over 99.99% of germs,” as an Ohio federal court said the plaintiffs suffered no injury and lack standing to sue.

The plaintiffs “received fair value for what they paid” to buy Purell Advanced Hand Sanitizer, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio said Tuesday.

“They paid for hand sanitizer. They received hand sanitizer. And they did so in an arm’s length transaction,” Judge J. Philip Calabrese said.
