Procter & Gamble Gets Metamucil-Sugar Deception Lawsuit Tossed

Procter & Gamble Co. shook off, for now, a proposed class suit alleging its Metamucil fiber supplements are deceptively portrayed as healthy, even though it has a high sugar content.

The consumers’ claims are preempted by federal dietary supplement labeling laws, the US District Court for the Northern District of California said on Thursday. The plaintiffs also failed to support their allegations that the labels are false or misleading, it said.

Tara Amado and Regina Pellegrino challenged label statements saying Metamucil’s fiber “Helps Support” appetite control, heart health, healthy blood sugar levels, and digestive health.
