Four University of Texas at Austin students who were arrested last year while participating in pro-Palestinian protests have sued the school and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R).
The students “were subjected to unconstitutional restrictions on their right to assemble,” they alleged in a lawsuit filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas.
Abbott directed state police to respond to the April 2024 protests and ordered the mass arrests of people based on “viewpoint animus,” the students say.
Abbott’s office and the university’s board of regents didn’t respond to separate request for comments Wednesday.
