Powerschool Holdings LLC and the Chicago Public Schools will pay $17.25 million to settle a proposed class action alleging they illegally collected and disclosed students’ personal information through the edtech provider’s Navience higher-education preparedness platform.
Members of the class of more than 10 million people will be entitled to a pro rata share of the net settlement fund, according to the plaintiffs’ motion for preliminary approval filed Monday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The settlement is subject to approval by Judge Jorge L. Alonso.
