PNC Not Negligent For Not Stopping Scam Against Elderly Woman

PNC Bank wasn’t negligent for failing to stop an elderly woman from a financial scam when she withdrew $400,000 from her account over a few months in 2020, a federal appeals court said on Friday.

Rachelle Arberman, who was 71 when the fraud happened, said a district court wrongly dismissed her negligence claim.

In August 2020, a scammer impersonating a federal law enforcement officer called Arberman and said her bank account had been compromised and that she needed to help law enforcement or she would be investigated as an accomplice.
