PNC Customer Drops Suit Over Data Hack Bank Says Didn’t Happen

A former PNC Financial Services Group Inc. customer dropped a proposed class action over an alleged data breach that the bank said didn’t actually occur, less than a week after filing the suit.

The complaint, filed Sept. 23 in the US District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, alleged that the bank failed to adequately protect Social Security numbers, contact information, and other sensitive customer data.

Plaintiff Madonna Blunt, who voluntarily dismissed her case Sunday, cited a dark web post by a group called Market Exchange, which claimed it had stolen 740,000 customer records from the Pittsburgh-headquartered bank.
