Plex User Advances Suit Over Sharing of Viewing Info With Meta

Streaming-video provider Plex Inc. must face a proposed class action alleging it secretly shared users’ video-watching histories with Meta Platforms Inc. in violation of the Video Privacy Protection Act.

Plex failed to establish that lead plaintiff Richard Lee consented to the disclosure of his information to Meta when he signed up for a Plex account, and Lee sufficiently pleaded that Plex disclosed his “personally identifiable information” as defined under the VPPA, Judge Eumi K. Lee of the US District Court for the Northern District of California said March 28.
