Plex Facing Hundreds of Arbitration Claims Over Video Privacy

A group of hundreds of consumers has asked a federal court to force Plex Inc. to separately arbitrate their claims that the company disclosed their video-watching histories without their consent.

Lead plaintiff Oliver Tsuya alleged in a proposed class action that Plex blocked consumers’ attempt to arbitrate their Video Privacy Protection Act claims by failing to pay $834,000 in arbitration filing fees. The fees were invoiced by Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services Inc. pursuant to rules in the mandatory agreement Plex imposed on its users, the complaint said.
