Paxton Avoids Texas Bar Sanctions in 2020 Election Challenge

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) won’t face discipline from the state bar for making alleged false statements in a lawsuit that sought to overturn the result of the 2020 election.

The Texas Supreme Court ruled Friday that the disciplinary case is moot after the state bar dropped the suit last month.

The bar, through its disciplinary arm, abandoned its case against Paxton after a December 2024 state high court ruling in a nearly identical case found that Paxton’s top assistant, Brent Webster, can’t be disciplined for the election challenge.
