Patreon to Pay $7.25 Million in Deal Over Info-Sharing With Meta

Patreon Inc. would pay $7.25 million to settle allegations it shared its subscribers’ viewing choices and personal information with Meta Platforms Inc. without obtaining their consent as required under the Video Privacy Protection Act, under a proposed deal filed in federal court.

Brayden Stark, Judd Oosteyn, and four others alleged in the lawsuit that the web-content platform installed the Meta “pixel” and other online surveillance tools on its website, allowing Meta and other third parties to collect consumers’ video-usage information, including the titles of the videos they watched and their Facebook IDs.
