Patients Advance Meta Tracking Suit Against Sharp Healthcare

Nonprofit health care group Sharp Healthcare must face a proposed class action alleging it shared the personal health information of California consumers with Facebook without their consent in violation of state privacy law.

Plaintiffs Hannah Cousin, Linda Camus, Deanna Franklin-Pittman, and Edward Barbat plausibly alleged that the information shared with Facebook was protected health information as defined in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, Judge Michael M. Anello of the US District Court for the Southern District of California said Nov. 17.
