Parents Have Right to Know Students’ Gender Identity, Judge Says

A parent’s right to know about their child’s gender expression ultimately outweighs the child’s right to keep that expression private, a California federal judge ruled on Tuesday.

Judge Roger T. Benitez denied a motion to dismiss from the California State Board of Education and a San Diego school district, which face a lawsuit over a state policy preventing teachers from disclosing a child’s gender identity to their parents without consent.
