Panini America Inc. won a $616,165 default judgment against a California resident who used its trademark on pornographic trading cards.
Ryan J. Carter saw his online storefront shut down after using some of the same words Panini uses in its sports trading cards for his own products, the US District Court for the Central District of California said Dec. 8. He continued to sell the cards on third-party platforms like eBay, the order said. His failure to appear in court in response to Panini’s trademark infringement suit led to a default.
