A Panamanian woman seeking asylum in the US after serving as a state witness wants a court to stop the Trump administration from deporting her to Honduras.
While American law allows asylum seekers to be sent to a third country, plaintiff Nallelys Liseth Caballero-Arauz told the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois that the statute requires that nation to be safe, and provide a fair opportunity to request relief. Honduras fails to meet that criteria, and was only designated as a potential third country after she came to the US, she said.
