An investigation from the state of Texas into records kept by an LGBTQ+ advocacy group involving doctors circumventing a state ban on child transgender care was prolonged for no good reason, justices on the Texas Supreme Court said Tuesday.
Texas’ overly broad document request, coupled with an unusual decision by a district court to hold trial on a discovery dispute, left some members of the court perplexed at the pace of the probe during oral arguments.
“That’s the way these things should go,” Chief Justice Jimmy Blacklock said of Texas requesting specific records. “It’s not that complicated.”
