Overby-Seawell $6 Million Data Breach Settlement Gets First Nod

A KeyBank NA vendor agreed to pay $6 million to resolve allegations that it endangered consumer data, according to a settlement preliminarily approved by a federal court.

Overby-Seawell Co. verifies that residential-mortgage customers are maintaining required property insurance, but a data security incident in 2022 allegedly exposed the personal data of over 600,000 KeyBank customers. The settlement is sufficiently fair to start to provide notice to those affected by the incident, Judge Steven D. Grimberg, of the US District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, said Thursday.
