California’s new solicitor general is Samuel Harbourt, the state’s Attorney General Rob Bonta announced in a Tuesday news release.
Harbourt, who argued for California before the Ninth Circuit in its lawsuit over President Donald Trump’s use of National Guard troops, will on Oct. 1 take the helm of the division of the state Department of Justice focused on appeals as California continues to engage in a torrent of legal challenges against the administration.
He assumes the role held previously by Michael Mongan, who announced his departure in July, citing a need to support his family.
