Oracle Trims Claims in Web-Privacy Suit Over ‘Digital Dossiers’

Oracle America Inc. defeated consumers’ attempt to revive two claims in a proposed class action alleging it tracks their online activities and creates digital dossiers about them for marketing purposes in violation of state and federal privacy laws.

Plaintiffs Michael Katz-Lacabe and Jennifer Golbeck failed to show that Oracle invaded a private space where they had a reasonable expectation of privacy when it tracked their Internet browsing, or that the company was acting with tortious intent in collecting their data, Judge Richard Seeborg of the US District Court for the Northern District of California said Wednesday.
