Omni Hotels & Resorts paid a food and beverage director in Corpus Christi, Texas, less than her male predecessors because she’s a woman, a federal jury ruled, awarding her $100,000 in compensatory damages and $25 million in punitive damages in what may be a record in the state.
The verdict was entered Friday by the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas following a four-day trial before Judge Brantley Starr. Plaintiff Sarah Lindsley proved the unequal pay violated her rights under Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the jury said.
