Ohio Law Requiring Public Land Drilling Spurs Groups to Sue (1)

Environmentalists sued Ohio to block a law that requires agencies to lease oil and gas resources, including those beneath state parks, for drilling and fracking.

Passage of the law (H.B. 507) violated sections of the state constitution, which requires that bills have one subject and be considered on three separate days before a vote, according to the lawsuit filed Thursday in Franklin County Common Pleas Court. It’s set to take effect Friday, if the environmental groups don’t succeed in obtaining a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction.
