More than 100,000 New York City SNAP recipients could lose their benefits after the US Department of Agriculture wrongly terminated waivers exempting certain states from the program’s work requirements, a proposed class action filed Monday says.
The USDA “acted without any authority” this month when it prematurely revoked New York’s waiver for federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients classified as able-bodied adults without dependents, the legal aid nonprofit Urban Justice Center-Safety Net Project alleges in a complaint filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
