New York City must pay more than $76,000 for the financial and emotional distress experienced by a Brooklyn man who was initially denied and later granted a city firearm permit.
Joseph Srour “incurred significant expenses and suffered emotional distress” when the New York City Police Department in 2019 refused to grant him handgun, rifle, and shotgun permits, denying “his constitutionally-protected means of self-defense at home,” Judge John P. Cronan of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York said Monday.
Cronan concluded Srour is entitled to $56,626 for his financial injuries and $20,000 for emotional distress.
