NYC ‘Good Moral Character’ Gun Permit Rule Unblocked by Court

The Second Circuit on Monday tossed a challenge to a New York City law that allows the police department to deny firearm permits to people who lack “good moral character.”

The decision reverses an October 2023 district court order placing a permanent injunction on the law in response to a challenge brought by New York City resident Joseph Srour who was initially denied and later granted a firearm permit by the New York Police Department.
