NYC Four Seasons Hotel Employer to Face Pandemic Layoff Claims

The company that manages hiring for the Four Seasons Hotel in midtown Manhattan will have to face class action claims that it violated federal and state labor law by laying off workers without notice during the Covid-19 pandemic, a federal judge ruled.

Federal law requires employers to provide in certain circumstances multiple notices of closings and mass layoffs to employees, US District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Jed Rakoff said in his Monday opinion, marking the first time a court in the Second Circuit’s jurisdiction has ruled on the issue.
