NYC Defends Sanctuary City Laws in Response to Trump Suit

The New York City mayor’s office on Wednesday said it will move to dismiss the Trump administration’s lawsuit seeking to strike down the city’s decades-old laws that limit local law enforcement’s cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

The US Justice Department says New York City’s policies are unconstitutional and make it harder for federal immigration officers to do their jobs. The lawsuit, filed in July, is part of the administration’s sweeping effort to take down similar laws in cities across the country and pave the way for the White House to carry out its deportation plans.
