NY Sued Over Rollback of Stricter Standards for Private Schools

A class action filed in New York State court challenges New York state’s decision to roll back stricter education standards for religious and private schools, including Jewish yeshivas.

The lawsuit in Brooklyn court is brought by four Hasidic and Haredi students who are currently enrolled in or recently attended ultra-Orthodox yeshivas and who allege they were denied a sound, basic education when the state unconstitutionally rolled back regulations requiring private schools to provide an education “substantially equivalent” to that of public schools. Their complaint is filed on behalf of 100,000 similarly situated students.
