NY Sued Over ‘Prohibitive’ $20 Million Cannabis License Fee

New York medical marijuana providers are suing the state for charging them a “prohibitive and unconstitutional” $20 million licensing fee to transition into the recreational cannabis market.

The New York Medical Cannabis Industry Association Inc., which comprises nine registered medical marijuana providers, alleges in its lawsuit that the state established the fee in violation of the state law that legalized adult-use cannabis. The fee is intended to discriminate against the organization’s members, many of whom are large companies that operate outside of the state and are involved in all stages of the marijuana supply chain, according to the complaint filed ...
