NY School District Sues State Over Transgender Bathroom Policies

New York State’s education department violated federal law when it required a Long Island school district to let transgender students use facilities that match their gender identities, a federal lawsuit says.

The Massapequa Union Free School District’s ability to establish its own policies was usurped when the state forbade it from requiring transgender students to use “intimate spaces,” including bathrooms and locker rooms, that align with their sex assigned at birth, the district says in its complaint filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
