NY Journalist Gets Injunction Allowing Precinct Video Recordings

A New York journalist was granted a preliminary injunction blocking the New York Police Department from enforcing its prohibition on recording police activities in publicly accessible areas of its precinct lobbies.

SeanPaul Reyes, an independent journalist who reports on government accountability and police misconduct, sued the City of New York after he was arrested twice for trying to record at two different precincts. He alleged NYPD’s procedure violates the First Amendment, as well as state and New York City right to record laws.
