NY Court Interpeters’ National-Origin Pay Bias Suit Tossed Again

Court interpreters’ federal lawsuit alleging the New York State Unified Court System paid them discriminatory wages on the basis of national origin was once again dismissed, this time for failure to bring a valid discrimination claim.

The US District Court for the Southern District of New York disagreed with the plaintiffs’ assertion that their role in the court and salary can be compared to that of court reporters, who they alleged get paid significantly more. The two positions don’t share work duties, educational requirements, or working conditions, Judge Ronnie Abrams said in a Monday opinion.
