Nursing Home System to Pay $21 Million for False Therapy Billing

The Justice Department has settled a whistleblower lawsuit brought under the False Claims Act by two former rehabilitation therapy providers against The Grand Health Care System and 12 affiliated skilled nursing facilities, the agency said Wednesday.

The facility allegedly billed federal health care programs for therapy services that were unreasonable, unnecessary, unskilled, or did not occur as billed. The whistleblowers who brought the case will be paid about $4.5 million as part of the $21.3 million settlement.
