IT security solutions company Ntirety Inc. failed to protect the personal health data of a medical diagnostic laboratory’s patients, according to a lawsuit.
Molecular Testing Labs was required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act to enter an agreement pledging Ntirety to sufficiently protect its patients’ data, according to the complaint in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas.
But an investigation found that some health data was breached “by unknown threat actors, possibly of Russian origin based on their use of certain Cyrillic alphabet,” the lawsuit said.
