North Dakota’s only abortion clinic sued the state Thursday, seeking to stop its enforcement of a law banning most abortions.
The action is the latest in a series of lawsuits alleging that a state constitution protects abortion access in the absence of a federal constitutional right.
Abortion providers also have filed suits in 11 other states—Arizona, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma, Florida, Texas, Utah, and West Virginia—and have won orders temporarily blocking bans in Utah, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Florida.
