A Republican-driven redrawing of North Carolina’s congressional maps can be used in the 2026 midterm elections, a federal court ruled Wednesday.

A three-judge panel unanimously denied a request by the NAACP and a group of North Carolina voters to halt the use of the maps in the upcoming election, finding they’re not likely to succeed on the claims.

The court’s decision comes as candidate registration for the midterm primary election in North Carolina begins Monday. The state’s new map effects two congressional districts, and will likely give Republicans one additional seat in the House of Representatives.
