Norfolk Southern Seeks to Share Blame for 2023 Ohio Derailment

Norfolk Southern Corp.’s attempt to force two companies to share blame for a 2023 train derailment in eastern Ohio began in earnest Tuesday as trial lawyers started pointing fingers in front of a Youngstown jury.

While the Atlanta-based railroad giant accepted responsibility for the East Palestine, Ohio disaster through a $600 million class-action settlement, the other companies were also negligent and should contribute to the agreed-upon amount, the company’s attorney Brittany Amadi said during her opening statement.
