Nordic Natural Hit With ‘Heart Health’ Fish Oil False-Ad Suit

Nordic Naturals Inc. deceptively labels its fish oil supplements as supporting “heart health” even though the products don’t provide benefits and can increase the risk of developing an abnormal heart rhythm, a proposed consumer class action alleges.

“Scientists and consumer health advocates have warned that fish oil labels are misleading, and that consumers are wasting their money,” the complaint filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California said.

The complaint noted that several recent studies have shown omega-3 fatty acids, the main component in fish oil supplements, can increase the risk of atrial fibrillation.
