‘No Sugar Momma’ Says Competing Bakery Copied Its Name

A baking company specializing in sugarless desserts alleges a competing treat company has unlawfully copied its name, “No Sugar Momma.”

The Illinois-based No Sugar Momma is suing a Michigan-based company with the same name for trademark infringement, in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, according to a complaint filed Jan. 26.

The plaintiff says it has been making “No Sugar Momma"-branded treats since 2017, starting out by selling to neighbors before moving on to farmers’ markets and a delivery website. The company trademarked a phrase—"No Sugar Momma, lovingly sweetened by Mother Nature"—and logo under state and ...
