A judge temporarily blocked the Tacoma Immigration Court’s practice of mandating detention without the possibility of bond for noncitizens who entered the US without inspection.

Ramon Rodriguez Vazquez showed that he is likely to succeed on the merits of his claim that the US government unlawfully detained him under the Immigration and Nationality Act’s mandatory detention provision, Judge Tiffany M. Cartwright of the US District Court for the Western District of Washington said in a Thursday order granting him a preliminary injunction.
