Newsweek successfully shed a defamation suit brought by Olivet University, a private religious institution, over its allegations that the publication twice published articles with an erroneous claim that the school had pleaded guilty to money laundering.
Olivet “has failed to plausibly allege that the challenged statement is false,” the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit said in a summary order Friday, affirming a district judge’s “thorough and well-reasoned” dismissal.
