New York’s 11th congressional district seat held by a Republican representative must be redrawn because it dilutes Black and Latino voters, a state court judge ruled Wednesday.
The district held by Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R), which covers all of Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn, is in violation of the state constitution and must be redrawn by the state’s Independent Redistricting Commission by Feb. 6 for the 2026 midterm election.
The ruling by Judge Jeffrey H. Pearlman provides an opportunity for Democrats to gain an additional seat in Congress as states across the country engage in mid-decade redistricting battles.
