New York City received district court approval Tuesday on its $2.9 million settlement with sanitation workers who said the city failed to properly pay them.
The city will pay 212 employees to resolve allegations it violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by not paying them for work done before or after their shifts, according to a memorandum opinion in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. The settlement will give the workers over $1.3 million in backpay and more than $1.5 million in liquidated damages, service awards, attorneys’ fees, and litigation expenses.
